MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Welsh rugby’s woes deepened on Tuesday afternoon with the announcement that Cardiff are entering administration.

The blue and blacks are currently Wales’s highest-ranked team in the United Rugby Championship and are two-time winners of the European Challenge Cup but recorded a loss of over £2 million in their last accounts.

Welsh Rugby’s governing body the WRU are expected to take over the short-term management of the club.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Birmingham City sealed their immediate return to the Championship with six games to spare after a 2-1 win at Peterborough on Tuesday evening.

The Blues have lost only three times in League One this season and kept 18 clean sheets in their 40 games.

Birmingham meet Peterborough again at Wembley on Sunday in the final of the EFL Trophy. Peterborough beat Wycombe to pick up the silverware last year.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Ex-England international Callum Watkins became the fourth high-profile player to leave Salford in recent weeks after joining his former club Leeds.

Salford are currently struggling to achieve financial sustainability while a proposed takeover is ongoing and have won only one of their six Super League games this season.

Watkins refused to play in their last league game against Wigan as he had not been paid.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Denver Nuggets have sacked head coach Michael Malone less than two years after he led them to their first ever NBA title.

The Nuggets reached the Western Conference semi-finals last year and can still make the play-offs this season despite losing their last four games.

Malone spent 10 years in Denver and has the best winning percentage of any coach in their history. He is replaced by his former assistant David Adelman.
