Sport in brief: April 10, 2025

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: Glasgow Clan kick off the Elite League’s end of season play-offs tomorrow evening with a quarter final first leg against last year’s champions Sheffield at Renfrew’s Braehead Arena. The Clan finished the regular season in seventh while Sheffield were runners-up. Table-toppers Belfast host Dundee on Saturday when Guildford meet Nottingham and Coventry are up against Cardiff. All four second leg ties will take place on Sunday.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Mike Okauru hit 20 points as the Newcastle Eagles lost out 95-82 to Romania’s CSO Voluntari in the European Northern Basketball championship match on Wednesday night in Bratislava. With the scores level at half time, Voluntari point guard Mike Caffey netted 18 second-half points to claim the Most Valuable Player award. Dziki Warszawa edged out Inter Bratislava 80-78 in the third place match.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Super League leaders Hull KR take on defending champions Wigan at Craven Park tomorrow evening. Hull are unbeaten in all competitions this season and currently sit four points clear of third-placed Wigan with neighbours Hull FC in second. St Helens, level on points with Wigan, meet this year’s promoted club Wakefield Trinity in tonight’s other fixture. Trinity have won three and lost three of their opening six league games.
