MEN’S BOXING: Scotland’s former undisputed world super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor lost by a unanimous points decision to World Boxing Organisation welterweight champ Ekow Essuman in Glasgow on Saturday night.

Thirty-four-year-old Taylor has now been beaten in his last three fights. On the undercard, heavyweight Moses Itauma stopped Mike Balogun in the second round and Nathan Collins beat fellow Scot Lee McGregor to pick up the World Boxing Council silver featherweight title.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: England need a convincing win over the Czech Republic in their final group game tomorrow evening and Belgium to lose against Italy if they are to have any chance of reaching the semi-finals at the European Under-17s championships.

After losing their first two games, the Czech Republic are unable to reach the last four but defending champions Italy have already qualified following their 4-2 victory over England last Thursday.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: The odds are lengthening on Penrith winning a fifth successive National Rugby League title after they suffered a 25-6 home loss to Newcastle and sit rock bottom of the table.

Canterbury Bankstown still top the league despite being thumped 44-6 by the Dolphins as the New Zealand Warriors lost out 10-16 to Canberra tomorrow morning while Sydney Roosters crushed Cronulla 42-6 and struggling Parramatta beat Manly 30-10.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Damian Penaud ran in two tries as Bordeaux-Begles edged out Northampton 28-20 to win the Champions Cup final in Cardiff on Saturday.

It’s the first time that Bordeaux have picked up the trophy, but French clubs have now been victorious in the last five finals.

Prop Alex Coles had scored two tries and England fly half Fin Smith notched 12 points as the teams went in level 20-20 at half-time.
