BOXING: Britain’s Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Galal Yafai lost his WBC interim flyweight belt by unanimous points decision to Mexico’s Francisco Rodriguez on Saturday night in Birmingham. It was Yafai’s first defeat in 10 professional bouts while Rodriguez improved his record to 40 wins in 47 fights. On the undercard British welterweight champion Conah Walker stopped Liam Taylor in the seventh round to retain his title.

WHEELCHAIR RUGBY LEAGUE: Leeds began their defence of the Super League trophy with a 114-6 thrashing of new club Edinburgh in Scotland on Saturday afternoon. The weekend’s other fixtures saw Challenge Cup holders Halifax draw 40-40 with London Roosters in a repeat of last week’s final before Wigan eased to an 80-4 victory over last year’s Championship winners Sheffield. The Super League’s seventh club Hull FC begin their campaign against Halifax next week.

NETBALL: Regular season Super League champions London Pulse recovered from a slow start to edge out Loughborough 50-49 and make it through to the Grand Final. The Pulse were six goals down in the fourth quarter before turning things around with five minutes left on the clock. Manchester Thunder thumped London Mavericks 79-49 to set up a play-off semi final against Loughborough for a place in July 6th’s Grand Final.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Shamrock Rovers take an 11-point League of Ireland lead and 11-match unbeaten run into this evening’s big Dublin derby at third-placed Bohemians. Second-placed Drogheda are at bottom club Cork City, who are without a win in nine games, Waterford face defending champions Shelbourne, struggling Sligo Rovers host Galway United at the Showgrounds and Derry City are up against St Patrick’s.
