At least 9 dead in stadium crush in El Salvador

AT LEAST nine people were killed and dozens more injured when football fans reportedly pushed through one of the access gates at a quarter-final match in the Salvadorean league on Saturday.

Police said in a preliminary report that nine people had been confirmed dead at the match between Alianza and FAS at the stadium in Cuscatlan, which is about 25 miles north-east of the capital San Salvador.

At least two of the injured taken to hospital were in critical condition.
