MEN’S FOOTBALL: Jamie Vardy’s 9th-minute strike was enough to seal Cremonese’s 1-0 win at Udinese and handed them a chance of avoiding relegation from Serie A. With one game to go Cremonese are a point adrift of Lecce in the scrap to avoid the drop. Lecce have perhaps the easier final fixture next weekend when they host Genoa while Cremonese face a Como side that is still battling for a Champions League spot. 

WOMEN’S GOLF: England’s Lottie Woad claimed her second LPGA Tour title after holding her nerve to win the Queen City Championship in Ohio. The 22-year-old took a three-shot lead into the final round at Maketewah Country Club and finished 12 under despite a double-bogey at the sixth. Haeran Ryu finished runner-up, two shots back, with Miyu Yamashita third on nine under.

NETBALL: Manchester Thunder top the Super League on points difference after they eased to an 82-66 win at lowly Leeds Rhinos and former table-toppers Loughborough slipped to a 65-76 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest. Third-placed defending champions London Pulse are only a point further back after they edged out the Mavericks 55-49 in their local derby and the Dragons won 62-50 at bottom club Birmingham.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Southend beat Wealdstone 4-2 on penalties to lift the FA Trophy in Sunday’s final at Wembley. The teams had played out a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes. It marks Southend’s first ever domestic cup success and also earned them £60,000 in prize money, twice as much as Wealdstone. In the earlier FA Vase final Eastleigh-based AFC Stoneham enjoyed a 4-2 win on penalties over Cockfosters after their match had also ended 0-0.
