AN IRANIAN actress known for her work in an Oscar-winning film was arrested on Saturday for her support of the nationwide women-led protests.
Taraneh Alidoosti, who starred in 2016’s The Salesman, was detained after she made a post on Instagram expressing solidarity with the first man recently executed for taking part in the protests against the government, a strict theocracy that polices female behaviour, which have been going on for three months.
She has been accused of spreading false information.
MOHAMMAD OMIDVAR, a senior figure in the Tudeh Party of Iran, tells the Morning Star that mass protests are rooted in poverty, corruption and neoliberal rule and warns against monarchist revival and US-engineered regime change
The Islamic Republic is attempting to deflect from its own failures with a scapegoating campaign against vulnerable and impoverished migrants, writes JAMSHID AHMADI
