TWO BRITISH military bases have been used to aid and abet war crimes in Iran and Gaza, peace campaigners warned the government today.
A letter sent to commanders at RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall detailed the use of bases by well over 100 fighter jets and bombers used in the US war of aggression on Iran by providing refuelling services for planes deployed to the region.
The Lakenheath Alliance for Peace wrote in their sixth statement accusing base commanders of helping US international law violations.
They also said three Israeli jets were recorded flying in and out Midlhenhall as recently as February 16, before the same jets were used in attacks against Gaza, Yemen and Iran.
Campaigners added that US forces are preparing “to site B61-12 nuclear weapons” at RAF Lakenheath, which they point out is not compatible with Britain’s obligation under the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).
A spokesperson for the MoD said: “We have accepted the US’ request for a ‘specific and limited defensive purposes’ to prevent Iran firing missiles across the region, killing innocent civilians, putting British lives at risk, and hitting countries that have not been involved.
“The use of our bases is limited to defensive actions in the region in collective self-defence of our longstanding regional friends and allies, and protecting British lives.”
The media present Starmer as staying out of Trump’s war — but we’re already deeply involved in a conflict that sees the US and Israel kill civilians on a huge scale, argues IAN SINCLAIR
From nuclear bomb storage in the 1950s to surveillance flights over Gaza today, the Cyprus base has enabled seven decades of machinations so heinous that Starmer once blurted out ‘we can’t tell the world’ what goes on there, writes NUVPREET KALRA
