Campaigners urge MPs to back WASPI compensation Bill
Waspi (Women Against State Pension Inequality) campaigners at Govan Cross in Glasgow, June 7, 2024

WASPI campaigners have joined SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn to call on MPs to back his state pension compensation Bill tomorrow.

The Westminster Labour government apologised in December to 1950s-born women found by the parliamentary and health services ombudsman to have been affected by Department of Work and Pension “maladministration” when pension age changes were accelerated.

But its decision to ignore the ombudsman’s recommendation of paying around £2,950 to each affected woman sparked a furious response from campaigners and MPs on both sides of the Commons.
