Corbyn reveals he will stand in Your Party CEC elections with ‘The Many’ candidates

JEREMY Corbyn MP confirmed yesterday he will stand in Your Party’s upcoming central executive committee (CEC) election as part of a slate of candidates called The Many.

The former Labour leader backed their calls for Your Party not to be “a fringe party scrapping at the margins,” but a “mass left party” reflecting a “broad social alliance.”

The slate includes Independent Alliance MPs Shockat Adam and Ayoub Khan and independent councillor and former Labour MP Laura Smith.

It also has national chairwoman of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign Louise Regan and unionist and 2019 Labour parliamentary candidate Jenn Forbes.

Mr Corbyn said: “I want Your Party to unite our communities on the issues that affect people’s lives: rising bills, soaring rents, and grotesque inequality.

“That is what it means to provide a real left alternative — one that stands up for the policies being demanded by millions of people across the country: public ownership, wealth taxes, rent controls, disability justice, environmental sustainability and an end to war.

“By fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity and collaboration, we can build a truly mass, democratic party that mobilises people everywhere. And we can finally build a society for the many, not the few.”

Your Party’s membership voted in favour of a collective leadership model at the founding conference in November.

Its CEC will elect 24 seats: 18 for “ordinary members,” two for each of nine English regions, at least one of which must be a woman and Scotland and Wales get one seat each.

Four seats will also be elected for public office holders such as MPs, mayors or councillors.

Your Party’s co-founder Zarah Sultana MP revealed her “Grassroots Left” slate last week.
