CYCLING: Two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard broke a collarbone and several ribs after a multi-rider crash on a high speed descent during stage four at the Tour of the Basque Country. Several other cyclists were hospitalised including 2022’s World Champion Remco Evenepoel, with fractures to a collarbone and shoulder blade, and Australian Time Trial champion Jay Vine who suffered cervical spine and vertebrae fractures.
WHEELCHAIR RUGBY LEAGUE: Super League champions Wigan face the Catalans Dragons for the European Club Championship at their home venue, Robin Park tomorrow evening. Wigan became the first non-Yorkshire-based team to win the Super League title after they edged out Leeds 50-42 in last year’s final. The Catalans, who will include England captain Seb Bacharain their squad, are the reigning Challenge Cup champions.
DARTS: 17-year-old Luke Littler beat Gerwin Price 6-3 in Thursday’s final at the Manchester Arena to claim his second successive Premier League of Darts victory. Littler saw off Michael van Gerwen yet again and Nathan Aspinall on his way to the final. He now tops the table, one point ahead of World Champion Luke Humphries. Round eleven of the 17-week tournament takes place in Birmingham next week.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: 2022’s winners Bromley face Solihull Moors in the FA Trophy semi finals tomorrow afternoon. Solihull have never reached the last four of the competition before. Last year’s runners up Gateshead take on two-time winners Macclesfield in the other semi final. Macclesfield play in the Northern Premier League, two levels below Gateshead, who are riding high in the National League. Tomorrow’s winners receive £15,000 in prize money, the losers £5,000.
