YEMEN: At least seven people were killed and 35 injured in a Houthi missile and drone strike on al-Makha port in south-west Yemen yesterday, with surrounding residential areas also hit. 

The Houthis claimed responsibility, saying the attack targeted Saudi troops and weapons depots at the port.

DR CONGO: Isis-affiliated militants from the Allied Democratic Forces killed at least 13 civilians in a raid on the village of Banana Ecole in eastern DR Congo’s Mambasa territory on Saturday, burning and looting homes. 

The attack compounded an already dire humanitarian situation in the region, where residents face the choice of staying or fleeing into areas affected by the country’s fast-spreading Ebola outbreak.

CHINA: Typhoon Dolphin made landfall on China’s eastern coast yesterday evening, forcing the evacuation of more than 420,000 people and prompting the cancellation of over 1,300 flights at Shanghai’s two main airports. 

The storm brought winds of 151 kilometres per hour to Zhejiang and Fujian provinces, with forecasters warning of severe flooding and landslide risks in the days ahead.

US: The Pentagon has ordered US defence contractors to submit within 21 days plans to dramatically accelerate weapons production, as stocks of advanced missile interceptors have fallen sharply due to the nation’s bloodthirst. 

Analysis by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies estimates Patriot interceptor stocks have fallen by at least 65 per cent since the war on Iran began.
