North Sea offshore workers accept £4,000 better pay offer after threatening strikes

OFFSHORE workers have secured a “bumper pay deal” after threatening strikes against the largest independent oil and gas producer in the North Sea, Unite announced on Friday.

Neo Next improved its one-year pay offer by more than £4,000 — around 75 per cent — after union members voted for walkouts from July 22.

The deal affects some 50 workers on the Elgin Franklin and North Alwyn platforms.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The Neo Next workers stood firm to get the pay deal they deserved.

“Through the threat of strike action, they have substantially increased the pay offer and this dispute demonstrates what can be achieved when workers collectively fight for better jobs, pay and conditions.”

Unite industrial officer Stevie Davies, said: “The enhanced pay offer only came after the strong strike mandate, and we are pleased this dispute has been positively resolved with the support of our membership.”
