WORKERS will bring bus services across the west of Scotland to a halt unless Stagecoach ups its “unacceptable” pay offer, Unite has said.
The union announced plans for strikes on May 2, 6, 9, 12, 16, 19 and 23 after 98 per cent of its 500 members at Stagecoach West of Scotland voted to take action over low pay.
Even after months of talks, the pay offer would leave drivers among the lowest paid across Stagecoach’s operations in Britain, despite the firm's subsidiary more than doubling its post-tax profits last year, from £1.3 million in 2023 to £2.99m in 2024.
Unite industrial officer Siobhan McCready said: “It’s unacceptable that the company has refused to tackle low pay.
“Unite’s members have no option but to take strike action to get a fair pay rise. They are simply seeking pay parity. Strike action during May is set to bring bus services to a stop, but the blame for any disruption lies squarely with Stagecoach.”
A company spokesperson said: “We are disappointed by Unite’s decision to take strike action.”
