Communist Party and Young Communist League welcome Supreme Court ruling on definition of woman

BRITAIN’S Communist Party and Young Communist League (YCL) today welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling this week clarifying that references to women in the Equality Act refer to biological sex.
A joint statement in the name of the party’s political committee, the YCL’s central committee and both organisations’ women’s committees said the ruling was important in upholding women’s right to single-sex spaces, and did not undermine trans people’s rights which are also protected under the Act.
“We welcome the Supreme Court’s clarification that ‘sex’ means biological sex in the Equality Act 2010 in the case For Women Scotland Ltd (Appellant) v The Scottish Ministers (Respondent) April 16 2025,” the statement reads.
