Trade unionists to hold trans rights protest in Parliament Square on Saturday
The UK Supreme Court in Parliament Square, central London

TRADE unionists will hold a rally in solidarity with the trans community in London today following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the definition of a woman.

Judges ruled this week that references to women in the Equality Act refer to biological women, with sex defined as “biological sex” in a case brought by For Women Scotland against the Scottish government.

Multiple unions expressed dismay at the ruling. The Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) executive said the decision “represents a concerning step back in the ongoing struggle for equality, dignity and safety for all marginalised people.”
