MEN’S FOOTBALL: Ameed Mahajneh scored deep into stoppage time as Palestine came from behind to beat Iraq 2-1 in Jordan on Tuesday, sealing a first ever World Cup qualifying group win and keeping their faint hopes of reaching the 2026 finals alive. In the other Group B matches South Korea were held to a 1-1 draw by Jordan and Kuwait slipped to the bottom of the table after going down 1-0 at home to Oman.

HORSE RACING: Following a £2 million research programme the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is to immediately introduce tests that can detect evidence of genetic or cellular manipulation of a horse’s DNA. The new tests will become part of the BHA’s routine anti-doping programme which combines raceday and out of competition sampling. The World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) banned animal and human gene doping in 2004.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Another round of Super League action kicks off tomorrow evening with lowly Castleford welcoming Hull FC to the Jungle. Hull currently sit third in the table, three points behind their table-topping neighbours Hull KR, while Castleford are third from bottom with just one win to their name. Second-placed Leigh face Wakefield Trinity tomorrow night when Warrington also take on Leeds. Defending champions Wigan play Salford on Sunday.
