Unison NW stands in solidarity against Trump

SCORES of northern Unison members have vowed to stand in solidarity with the Venezuelan people against US interference.

A meeting held at the Mechanics Institute in Manchester on Monday night, called in defence of the Bolivarian revolution, attracted more than 100 people.

Speakers included Unison North West regional secretary Kevan Nelson, Labour Party national executive member Navendu Mishra, Alborada contributing editor Rachael Boothroyd Rojas and Francisco Dominguez from Middlesex University.

Speakers and audience members insisted that trade unionists must be ready to resist attempts to delegitimise and undermine the Venezuelan government.

Mr Mishra told the Star: “Events like this in the north-west show the depth of feeling among northern trade unionists on this issue.

“There are hundreds of us across the labour movement who support the right of people across the world to determine their own future free from the threat of American intervention, and I thank Unison North West and the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign for their work in illuminating this.”
