Most charges against Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab dropped by US court
Pedestrians walk near a poster asking for the freedom of Colombian businessman and Venezuelan special envoy Alex Saab, and that reads in Spanish "They haven't been able to bend him," in Caracas, Venezuela

MOST of the charges against Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab have been dropped by a US court, with his defence lawyers saying there was a lack of evidence against him to proceed.

Prosecutors in the case however insisted that seven of the eight charges — including that of money laundering — were dropped to comply with assurances made to the government of Cape Verde when seeking his extradition.

Florida-based Judge Robert Scola agreed to the request made by the US Attorney General’s office, with media reporting that Mr Saab will be charged with “conspiracy to legitimise capital.”
