TEHRAN is preparing a list of conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz in response to requests from mediators, Iranian security chief Mohsen Rezaei said today.

He added that the US must first take practical steps to meet the demands before the waterway reopens.

It comes as meetings were held in Tehran amid international hopes that dialogue between the US and Iran could resume.

But US government sources said any agreements reached between the Iran and Oman meeting were not binding on Washington, reiterating that the strait remains open, mines are cleared, no talks are scheduled, and the naval blockade stays in place.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the latest US economic pressure campaign, warning that participating countries would be complicit in an unlawful attempt to impose Washington’s will.

It described the sanctions as a violation of the UN Charter and “state terrorism,” accusing the UN system of failing to respond adequately to violations of international law by the US and Israel.

Seven commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, down from 17 a day earlier and below the 10-day average of 15, according to ship-tracking firm Kpler.

At least 7,900 people have been killed in the six months since the US and Israel launched their latest war, the majority in Lebanon.

The Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project recorded at least 3,580 US and Israeli attacks on Iran since February 28, with Iran carrying out at least 2,053 attacks across the region in return.

Today, one person was killed and others injured after an Israeli drone strike hit civilians in Gaza City’s Sabra neighbourhood.

Three members of the same family were killed near Khan Younis, and Israeli forces carried out heavy bombing in southern Lebanon’s al-Mansouri at dawn.
