THE Tory government has broken its promise to eliminate NHS waiting lists by July, Labour said today, as new figures revealed that 6.8 million patients are waiting for treatment.
NHS England data show that 2,885 people in England had been waiting more than two years to start routine hospital treatment at the end of July, down from 3,861 at the end of June and a peak of 23,778 in January.
But the overall NHS waiting list hit a new record high of 6.8m at the end of July, up from 6.7m in June.
