Journalist Bulent Kenes

SWEDEN’S top court rejected an extradition request from Turkey yesterday, saying that the Scandinavian country does not criminalise political views.

Journalist Bulent Kenes is wanted by the Turkish government for his alleged involvement in a 2016 coup attempt.

The 55-year-old, who has been granted asylum in Sweden, was the editor of Today’s Zaman, an English-language newspaper that was owned by a network linked to far-right religious cleric Fethullah Gulen — whom Turkey accuses of being behind the failed coup.
