PROTESTERS in Iran marched through the streets of multiple cities today in the most widespread demonstration in weeks amid the months-long unrest that’s gripped the Islamic Republic.
The demonstrations, marking 40 days since Iran executed two men on charges related to the protests, show the anger in the country has not lessened.
The protests began over the September 16 death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini after her arrest by the country’s so-called morality police.
MOHAMMAD OMIDVAR, a senior figure in the Tudeh Party of Iran, tells the Morning Star that mass protests are rooted in poverty, corruption and neoliberal rule and warns against monarchist revival and US-engineered regime change
The Committee for the Defence of Iranian People’s Rights (Codir) welcomes demonstrations across Iran, which have put pressure upon the theocratic dictatorship, but warns against intervention by the United States to force Iran in a particular direction
