Morning Star international editor ROGER McKENZIE reminisces on how he became an Aston Villa fan, and writes about the evolution of the historic club over the years

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Manchester City gained a measure of revenge for last weekend’s Super League defeat when they edged out neighbours United 2-1 in Wednesday’s League Cup quarter-final tie.
They will face Arsenal in the last four after the holders produced a dominant second-half display to brush aside Brighton 5-0.
West Ham won 2-1 at Tottenham to set up the other semi-final with Chelsea, who saw off Durham 5-0.
MEN’S RUGBY UNION: United Rugby Championship action returns tomorrow evening with the struggling Ospreys hosting Treviso in Swansea before table-topping Leinster look to preserve their 100 per cent record against the Cape Town-based Stormers on Saturday.
Other fixtures include bottom club the Dragons taking on Munster, Scarlets facing Edinburgh and Cardiff up against Durban’s Sharks before second-placed Glasgow play Connacht on Sunday.
MEN’S CRICKET: Nathan McAndrew bagged 5-14 as Sydney Thunder beat Melbourne Stars by 21 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method to set up tomorrow's Big Bash Challenger match against fellow Sydney team the Sixers.
The winner will face Hobart Hurricanes in Monday’s final on Tasmania.
The Sixers beat the Thunder by five wickets during the regular season and finished second in the league, one place above them.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: Zach Jackson top-scored with 18 points as Leicester Riders held-off a spirited Manchester challenge for a 85-77 win at Belle Vue in Wednesday evening’s Super League Cup quarter-final.
The Riders will meet Surrey 89ers, who knocked out last year’s winners London in the previous round, over two legs in the last four while Bristol Flyers will take on high-flying Sheffield in the other semi-final.
