VENEZUELA criticised the Spanish embassy in Caracas on Sunday for allegedly colluding with the country’s far-right opposition politician Leopoldo Lopez in the attempted coup against the democratically elected government.
Chair of the Venezuelan parliament Jorge Rodriguez presented new evidence for Mr Lopez’s involvement in last year’s failed coup attempt, Operation Gideon, when former US special forces troops Airan Berry and Luke Denman were caught entering the country from neighbouring Colombia on May 3 2020.
They were part of a plot spearheaded by Washington-backed Juan Guaido, who signed a contract with private US military company Silvercorp. Both men were subsequently jailed.
