Trump named as chief of plot to overthrow Venezuelan government

US President Donald Trump ordered the failed coup attempt in Venezuela, Venezualan leader Nicolas Maduro told a press conference on Wednesday.

The conference heard that former US Green Beret Luke Denman has admitted being part of a plot to kidnap President Maduro that was planned by Mr Trump, who wants the downfall of the democratically elected Bolivarian government.

Mr Denman was one of 13 people detained as they tried to enter Venezuelan territory in boats travelling from neighbouring Colombia.
