Harry Kane during the German soccer cup match between VfL Osnabrueck and Bayern Munich in Osnabrueck, Germany, September 2, 2026

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Holders Bayern Munich came from behind to win 4-1 at second-division Osnabruck in Wednesday evening’s final match of the German Cup first round. Harry Kane equalised with a penalty before adding a late second after goals from Tom Bischof and Michael Olise. All eighteen Bundesliga clubs made it through to Saturday’s second-round draw although Wolfsburg needed penalties to overcome fourth-tier Altglienicke.

SPEEDWAY: Oxford’s Sam Masters and Anders Rowe won the team’s first-ever Championship Best Pairs competition on Wednesday evening in Poole. They beat Glasgow’s Leon Flint and Chris Harris in the semi-finals before seeing off Berwick’s Peter Kildemand and Nick Morris to lift the trophy. Berwick had beaten Poole in their last-four clash. Last year’s winners Redcar, who have dominated the event in recent years, finished seventh.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Hull FC will be missing second-rower Joe Batchelor from tonight’s Super League game at Toulouse after he was handed a two-game ban for dangerous contact with the head in the first minute of their 14-16 loss to Warrington last week. With only two matches to go in the regular season, St Helens prop Daniel Suluka-Fifita, Warrington’s Sam Powell and Castleford’s Daniel Sarbah all received one-game suspensions.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: World Cup holders the USA are without six of their former gold medallists, including the world’s best player A’ja Wilson, when they begin the defence of their title against 2022’s runners-up China in Berlin today. All 16 teams are in action on the opening day with France, currently ranked as the world number two, taking on Hungary and Australia, who finished third four years ago, facing Puerto Rico.
