Greenpeace unveils anti-Bezos banner in Venice amid wedding protests
This photo released by Greenpeace shows a large banner against Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' planned wedding, in St. Mark Square, in Venice, Italy, June 23, 2025

GREENPEACE unveiled a banner in Venice today attacking Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who is hiring whole sections of the city for his wedding this week.

“If you can rent Venice for your wedding you can pay more tax,” the banner reads of the union-busting tycoon, among the world’s richest men.

Banners have been dropped from the Rialto bridge and the San Giorgio bell tower opposing Mr Bezos’s use of the city for his marriage to Lauren Sanchez.

A swimming protest is planned in the lagoon to disrupt guests trying to reach festivities on the island of San Giorgio, opposite St Mark’s Square, from hotels elsewhere in the city, in a campaign dubbed No Space for Bezos which has highlighted Venice’s structural fragility and the negative impact of mass tourism on everything from housing to marine ecosystems.

Greenpeace said it co-operated on the banner with another organisation, Everyone Hates Elon, which focuses on protesting about the even richer Elon Musk.
