A MEETING of Palestinian groups was held on Sunday in the presence of Egyptian, Qatari and Turkish mediators to discuss the non-implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli forces have continued to violate the ceasefire agreed on last October 10.
Israeli attacks have killed at least 961 people and injured 3,020 since the ceasefire began, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
At least 229 of those killed were children according to the United Nations.
Israeli forces have also carried out near-daily home demolitions, in another breach of the ceasefire.
Although most demolitions have taken place beyond the so-called Yellow Line, others have been recorded inside Palestinian-controlled areas.
According to Egypt’s Al-Qahera News channel, the meeting focused on a proposed roadmap for completing the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
The Hamas delegation said that disarming the Palestinian resistance in Gaza should come after a full Israeli withdrawal from the strip to enter the second phase of the agreement.
Under the terms of the United States brokered agreement, subsequent phases were meant to include a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the entire Gaza Strip.
According to sources, the discussions also addressed the administration of Gaza during the current phase and Hamas’s position on handing over the administration of the enclave to a Palestinian committee.
Sources also say there was agreement on the need to finalise the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan, particularly all resolutions of the first phase.
The first phase of the ceasefire agreement included the exchange of prisoners and detainees, the entry of humanitarian supplies into the strip, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from parts of Gaza.
The total death toll in Gaza since Israel began its retaliation after it was attacked on October 7 2023 is now at least 72,971, with 173,012 injuries, according to the latest updates by Gaza-based health authorities.
