Government announces new Minister of Magic
by Rob Walton
responsibilities will include
pulling rabbits out of beanies
sawing poor children in half
then quarters
then eighths
making a noose from a soft rope
with a flick of the wrist
producing discoloured scarves
flecked with phlegm and blood
finding the king on all the cards
making your wallet disappear
wrapping the country’s wealth in a cloth
then smashing it with a hammer
before revealing the broken pieces
Rob Walton was born in Scunthorpe and lives in Whitley Bay. His debut collection This Poem Here was published by Archne Press 2021.
