FORMER Labour MSP Colin Smyth attended court today over allegations he caused multiple crashes in central Edinburgh while over the drink-drive limit.
Mr Smyth was suspended from Labour in August 2025 after he was charged with possession of indecent images of children and faced allegations — which he denies — of placing a hidden camera in a toilet of the Scottish Parliament.
It was while on bail that he is alleged to have driven dangerously on Edinburgh’s High Street on November 2, mounting the pavement, narrowly missing a pedestrian and crashing into a parked car while at more than double the legal alcohol limit.
He is also accused of having crashed into electric bollards directly outside City Chambers, repeatedly getting in and out of the vehicle and revving the engine, and failing to report the incident to police “as soon as reasonably practicable.”
The 53-year-old turned up at Edinburgh Sheriff Court but left a short time later, without appearing in the dock.
Following his departure from the building the clerk of court confirmed the case was continued without plea and will call again next month.
Mr Smyth is next due to attend court on July 1.
