Making sure the Star shines far and wide
Morning Star circulation manager BERNADETTE KEAVENEY encourages readers to make sure they get their daily dose of socialism

TODAY’S edition will be available to delegates attending the TUC Yorkshire and Humber AGM in Hull, Midlands District CPB congress, a Kinder Scout commemoration event, CWU conference and a digital edition being sent to the Stop the War AGM.

Welcome to any first-time readers and to returning readers who only pick the paper up at these events.

To both groups I would ask, if you have enjoyed reading the paper, consider putting an order in at your local shop and buy it as often as you can.

In our Reach for the Star campaign we are seeking 1,000 new readers of the daily edition but we would be equally happy if there were 2,000 readers buying it three times a week or 6,000 readers only buying it every Saturday.

And don’t forget the digital subscription starts at only £5 a week.

On Thursday evening I had the opportunity to speak to members of the North East Morning Star Readers & Supporters Group to discuss how as a group they could help with the sales campaign.

After a broad discussion about the role of the group and what they had been doing prior to Covid there was no lack of ideas.

The group already have one huge task each year and that is to make the Morning Star central to the Durham Miners’ Gala and to ensure that the distribution of the free bumper edition is a success.

This is no mean feat along with running a stall in the main exhibition area.

Working with our business team, the group are going to investigate how best to capitalise on the exposure of the paper to the thousands who attend the Gala from the surrounding area.

In addition focus will be given to reaching out to the huge student population both in Newcastle and Durham.

If you live in north-east England and are interested in joining the group then please contact Ron for more details ronnie49@live.co.uk and check out the Facebook page which will be updated regularly with details of meetings — it’s never too early to volunteer to help with the paper distribution at Durham!

I am off to the CWU conference today flying the flag for the paper, and I hope to meet delegates from the branch who have just placed an order for three copies a day to be delivered by NewsTeam to their union office.

A great way to get your daily dose of socialism — why not follow suit and get your union branch to take out a daily delivery subscription?
