This weekend, the NEU holds a special conference to debate changing its approach to organising teaching assistants, which a 2017 TUC agreement forbids. General secretary DANIEL KEBEDE outlines the choices before delegates
Statement of the World Peace Council
THE World Peace Council (WPC) expresses its deepest concern and worries about the war preparations of the US and its allies in the Middle East and in particular against Iran.
The high concentration of military power of the US, among others, with two aircaft carriers and the deployment of troops in neighbouring countries, the encirclement of Iran by dozens of US, Britain and Nato military bases and the respective war rhetoric are more than a sign for a planned attack on Iran.
The talks and negotiations being held these days in Geneva are being used by the US to win time and exercise further pressure on Iran for the geopolitical interests of the US, namely the rich oil reserves and transport routes in the region.
US imperialism has never hidden its ambitions and plans for the Middle East. Having Israel as strategic ally which continues the genocidal crimes against the people of Palestine in the forefront of the planned aggression and after the overthrow of the Syrian government and the handover of the power to their willing religious fundamentalist collaborators, the next target is Iran.
There are several indications and information which show a clear and open preparation for a war against Iran. The pretexts are the same since always. Despite the complete absence of any proof and evidence for Iran having nuclear weapons, the imperialists are building their narrative over their controlled international media that the country is preparing to have such weapons. Last year’s attack by the US against Iran was just the step for today’s war plans.
The WPC calls openly upon all peaceloving forces and peoples in the world to stay on highest alert, to plan and hold protests and rallies in every corner of the world in order to denounce the war plans of US imperialism and its allies against Iran. Such a planned aggression would set on fire the whole region, the consequences would be unforseebale with regional and even global dimensions.
The WPC expresses its solidarity with the people of Iran, against any foreign interference in their affairs, for their right to determine alone and freely their fortunes.
No war on Iran! US imperialism out of the Middle East!
