AN adult has died from measles as cases continue to rise, health officials confirmed.
Figures from the UK Health Security Agency show 883 confirmed measles cases in England from the start of the year to July 6, following 959 cases in total in 2025.
Two children died from measles in June, and officials have now confirmed an adult with an “underlying immunological problem” has also died.
More than half of cases have been reported in London, with the majority among children aged 10 and under.
It comes after NHS leaders launched a catch-up campaign targeting parents of children aged two to 11 who have missed the MMR vaccine, which also now protects against chicken pox.
Health officials aim to contact around a million families of children who have missed one or both doses.
Figures for the first three months of the year show 84.1 per cent of five-year-olds had received both doses.
Earlier this year, the World Health Organisation said Britain was no longer considered to have eliminated measles.
