Korean Peninsula: Hammond urges Seoul not to rise to provocations

BRITISH Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond warned South Korea against “rising to the bait” yesterday as tensions with North Korea continued to rise.

South Korea deployed heavy weapons near the border demilitarised zone (DMZ) as it restarted propaganda broadcasts in retaliation for the North’s latest nuclear weapon test.

Mr Hammond said he understood why South Korea felt the need to respond to the supposed escalation in its neighbour’s nuclear capability.
