MEN’S FOOTBALL: Nantwich Town from the Northern Premier League’s Western Division beat National League York 3-2 to make it through to the FA Trophy fourth round. Four other National League teams crashed out to lower league opposition with Dagenham and Redbridge losing on penalties to Peterborough Sports after a 1-1 draw, Boreham Wood going down 1-0 at Bath City, whilst Southend and Ebbsfleet both suffered spot-kick defeats.
WOMEN’S RUGBY UNION: Merry Doige’s hat-trick helped Exeter to a 52-27 bonus point win over Harlequins and moved them joint top of the English Women’s Premiership with Saracens, who were not in action. Bristol saw off Loughborough 46-17 to climb into third place and Ealing beat bottom club Leicester 36-7 for their first win of the season. Gloucester-Hartpury’s game with Sale was postponed due to a lack of pitch-side medical support.
MEN’S CRICKET: Glenn Phillips followed up his first innings knock of 87 with an unbeaten 40 as New Zealand battled past Bangladesh to win a low-scoring second Test by four wickets, levelling the two-match series at 1-1. Chasing 137 to win the Kiwis slumped to 69-6 before Phillips and Mitchell Santner, with 35 not out, steered them home. The teams now travel to New Zealand for a three match 50 over series.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Kirk Miller’s added time tap-in sealed Linfield’s 4-3 come-back win over Dungannon and kept them top of the Irish Premiership by a point, with a game in hand. Their nearest challengers Larne cruised past Glenavon 4-1, third-placed Cliftonville drew 2-2 with Glentoran, Crusaders sneaked a 1-0 win at Carrick, 10-man Coleraine beat Loughall 3-2 and Newry drew 0-0 with Ballymena in the bottom of the table clash.
