A SENIOR correspondent has told German state broadcaster ZDF that the alleged chemical attacks in Syria were likely to have been faked.
In a report from the ground, veteran reporter Uli Gack said on Sunday night that “the Douma chemical attack [was] most likely staged, a great many people here seem very convinced.”
He explained that he had interviewed many people in Douma who dismissed reports of the alleged attack that was used as a pretext for the launch of missiles by Britain, France and the US on April 14.
Mr Gack was reporting for Germany’s ZDF, one of the country’s largest and oldest state-run television channels.
His findings were consistent with that of a number of reporters who have visited the area, including award-winning British journalist Robert Fisk.
Russia claims to have “irrefutable evidence” that the alleged attacks were staged by British intelligence to justify military intervention.
Inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) are currently investigating the area.
