New reintegration law risks war, Ukraine's communists warn

UKRAINE’S new “reintegration law” on returning the rebel Donbass region to Kiev could ignite a major war with Russia, the Communist Party of Ukraine (KPU) says.

The party’s general secretary Petro Symonenko told members of the United European Left group at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg that the law also breaches Ukraine’s undertakings in the Minsk protocol, a 2014 agreement aimed at ending the war in the Donbass.

The Kiev parliament has passed the law and President Petro Poroshenko says he will sign it into statute as soon as it is presented to him.
