MORE than 300 workers at Tunnock’s factory in Uddingston have secured a 9.6 per cent pay boost after threatening strike action.

In a deal negotiated by their union, Unite, basic pay at the site — best known for producing Tea Cakes and Caramel Logs — will go from £13 to £13.61 an hour, backdated to July 1 this year, with a further increase to £14.25 from April 2027.

The deal came after workers at the plant strengthened their union’s negotiating hand with an overwhelming mandate for strike action. 

Unite industrial officer Debbie Hutchings said: “Tunnock’s returned to the negotiating table after our members stood firm and refused to swallow unacceptable pay offers from the company.   

“The deal backed by our members builds on the recent progress made at Tunnock’s which has improved the jobs, pay and conditions of the workforce.” 

Welcoming workers’ decision to back the deal, Unite general secretary Sharon Graham added: “This is a significant victory for Tunnock’s workers who, by being prepared to take strike action, secured a greatly improved pay offer.”
