BRAZIL: Dozens were still missing in south-east Brazil today after floods killed at least 36 people in the state of Minas Gerais, officials said.

Rescue teams worked through the night as heavy rain is expected in the region in the next few days. All the victims found so far are in the cities of Juiz de Fora and Uba, about 192 miles north of Rio de Janeiro.

Minas Gerais’s fire department said 33 people were still missing and about 3,000 residents had been forced to leave their homes as of this morning.

HUNGARY: Prime Minister Viktor Orban ordered extra security at critical energy infrastructure sites today after claiming Ukraine was attempting to disrupt Hungary’s energy system.

Budapest has recently accused Kiev of deliberately holding back Russian oil deliveries through the Druzhba pipeline, which crosses Ukraine’s territory.

Ukrainian officials have denied the allegations, saying the pipeline, which feeds refineries in Hungary and Slovakia, was hit in a Russian drone attack.

INDIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicked off a two-day visit to Israel today aimed at focusing on strengthening security, economic and technological co-operation between the two countries.

Mr Netanyahu’s office released a statement lauding the leaders’ “close personal relationship” and “deep and long-standing friendship.”

DETENTION: Guinea’s military today confirmed the detention of 16 Sierra Leonean soldiers after accusing them of crossing the border and raising their flag on Guinean soil.

The two West African countries have been involved in a border dispute for more than two decades, stemming from the Sierra Leonean civil war between 1991 and 2002.
