CHINA is sending humanitarian aid to Iran, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, officials announced today.
Beijing said it has allocated $200,000 (around £150,000) in emergency humanitarian assistance to the Iranian Red Crescent, specifically for the families of girls who were killed in an attack on a primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said China “always practices the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind.” He added that the conflict has caused a serious humanitarian disaster for the people of Iran and other countries in the region.
Mr Lin promised China “will continue to make efforts to promote peace and stop the war, seeking the swift restoration of regional peace and stability and preventing the humanitarian crisis from worsening further.”
The illegal and unprovoked attack launched by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28 has created a dire humanitarian situation.
More than 1,300 people have been killed in Iran, including then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei, while up to a million families have been displaced, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
In Lebanon, the Israelis have killed at least 826 people and wounded another 2,000 since March 2, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
The ministry also reported the killing of 31 paramedics and healthcare workers, as well as the forced closure of five hospitals. More than 830,000 people were displaced.
Mr Lin also commented on escalating violence between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He called for direct dialogue between the two nations as “the only effective way to resolve bilateral issues.”
Beijing urged both countries to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, projects and institutions in their territories, pledging to continue working constructively to reduce tensions.
