ZARAH SULTANA has revealed a candidate slate for Your Party’s central executive committee (CEC) with the creation of the new Grassroots Left group.

At the top of a list shared by Ms Sultana on Sunday evening, Jeremy Corbyn’s name featured prominently.

But the former Labour leader did not want to be included in the list, according to sources close to him who confirmed earlier reporting from the New Statesman.

The source confirmed to the Morning Star that, not only did he not give his permission, but “specifically asked” for his name not to be in the list.

His own slate of candidates could be published as early as this week, according to the source.

A spokesperson for Mr Corbyn said: “Jeremy will be laying out his vision for Your Party in the coming days, including his ambition to help build a diverse and broad-based movement for the change this country needs.”

A second Your Party member named in Ms Sultana’s list, Michael Lavalette, said today that he is standing as an Independent and is “not part of any slate.”

In an online post, he said: “I have been endorsed by the Grassroots slate — but, again, I have not signed up to that slate, and I am not a member of that slate.”

Election results for the party’s CEC will be announced on February 26, when a 16-person committee will have been elected.

Seven of these will make up the officers group, with a chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, treasurer, political officer and spokesperson.

None of these roles are open to sitting members of any national parliament. But in the wider CEC, four roles may be held by current MPs.
