WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Montse Tome will leave her role as Spain’s women’s head coach and be replaced by under-23s boss Sonia Bermudez.

Tome, whose contract expires on August 31, took charge in September 2023 and led her side to the final of Euro 2025, where they lost to England on penalties.

The Royal Spanish Football Federation said in a statement: “The board of directors of the Royal Spanish Football Federation would like to thank Montse Tome for her work, professionalism and dedication in various roles during her time as a member of the national teams at the RFEF, especially during her time as the national team coach.”

MEN’S TENNIS: Cameron Norrie was knocked out of the Cincinnati Open following a straight-sets defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut.

At times during the contest, the British number two looked to be struggling in hot conditions and was eventually beaten 6-4 6-3.

Elsewhere, Carlos Alcaraz overcame a tricky contest against world number 56 Damir Dzumhur to win 6-1 2-6 6-3.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Tottenham have opened talks with Manchester City over the potential signing of Savinho, the PA news agency reported yesterday.

Spurs are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after the departure of Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC and the recent serious knee injury sustained by James Maddison.

A pursuit of Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White failed last month, and Tottenham have now switched attention to versatile attacker Savinho, but discussions with Man City are at an early stage.

MEN’S CRICKET: Mo Bobat, the former England backroom guru, has been appointed director of cricket at London Spirit, who have also announced they will retain their franchise name going forwards.

Bobat spent 12 years in England’s set-up and the men’s team won both white-ball World Cups when he was performance director before he resigned in 2023 to take up a post at Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He was widely lauded in his role as director of cricket as RCB claimed their first Indian Premier League title this year, and he will join the Spirit in October ahead of the 2026 campaign.
