WEST HAM ran out comfortable winners of this relegation battle against Wolves at the London Stadium.
The visitors looked promising in the first half, with Yerson Mosquera heading wide and Adam Armstrong having a header saved by Mads Hermansen.
While not scoring, Jarrod Bowen orchestrated all of the Hammers’ most dangerous moves. It was his cross that found Konstantinos Mavropanos, who headed the home side into the lead.
Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa then turned a Taty Castellanos shot around the post.
West Ham took control midway through the second half, with a quick-fire double from Castellanos. First, an exchange with Pablo saw him sweep home. Then, almost straight from the kick-off, Bowen set up Castellanos again to score from the edge of the penalty area.
The rout was completed when Mavropanos swivelled to volley home Bowen’s corner.
West Ham could have added more, with Bowen hitting the post and substitute Adama Traore breaking clear but seeing his chipped effort drift wide. Wolves’ Angel Gomes also struck the woodwork.
West Ham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo admitted his side were fortunate not to concede in the first half.
“We were good in the second half—combative,” said Espirito Santo, who also praised his team’s defending at set pieces.
Wolves head coach Rob Edwards felt his side started well. “We were good with the ball, but the two quick-fire goals in the second half cost us the game,” he said.
