SPEEDWAY: Premiership table-toppers Belle Vue Aces moved six points clear of second-placed Leicester with a 50-40 success at King’s Lynn on Monday night. 

Jason Doyle top-scored with 13+1 points for the Aces who sealed their victory by sweeping up 5-1 wins in the last two heats. 

At the other end of the table bottom-club Northampton let slip a four-point lead after heat 10 to draw 45-45 at home to Sheffield.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: The convoluted Champions League qualifying programme gets under way Wednesday morning with the opening batch of first qualifying-round semi-final matches. 

Wrexham host Armenia’s Pyunik with the winners facing either Belfast’s Glentoran or Riga for a place in the next round. 

Athlone travel to Poland for their match with North Macedonia’s Skopje 2014. Hearts and Rangers both begin their campaigns in the second qualifying round.

HORSE RACING: 2025’s champion jockey Oisin Murphy bagged a 26/1 double at Windsor on Monday evening to move back within two wins of Billy Loughnane in the race for this year’s championship. 

The 20-year-old Loughnane, who was the top apprentice in 2023, is enjoying his best season, while Murphy, 10 years his senior, has been champion jockey five times since 2019. 

The competition runs until Ascot’s British Champions Day on October 17.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Hull KR half-back Mikey Lewis has been handed a four-game suspension after his ill-disciplined display in the defending champions 34-12 defeat at Warrington on Saturday. 

The England international was sanctioned for a reckless late tackle and unprovoked headbutt. 

The Match Review Panel also handed out a three-game ban to Huddersfield’s Taane Milne and two-match suspension for Wigan’s Kian McDermott.
