MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Magic Weekend is set to smash its attendance record when it kicks off at Everton on Saturday lunchtime with Huddersfield up against York.

That’s followed by the Hull derby and ex-Melbourne Storm prop Lazarus Vaalepu making his Leigh debut against Warrington. Toulouse face Catalans in Castres.

Sunday’s action sees Wakefield take on Castleford, Super League table-toppers Leeds playing Bradford and Wigan’s clash with St Helens.


SPEEDWAY: Ben Cook top-scored with 13 points riding at number three as King’s Lynn cruised to a surprise 54-36 win over defending champions Ipswich on Thursday evening.

King’s Lynn are now five points clear of bottom club Northampton after they slumped 49-41 at Leicester for a fifth successive defeat on the road.

Ryan Douglas top-scored with 10+2 for Leicester while Nicolai Klindt led the way for Northampton with 10 points.


MEN’S BOXING: 22-year-old Abdullah Mason, boxing’s youngest current world champion, defends his WBO lightweight title against Albert Bell in his home-town of Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday night.

Bell is the late replacement for Wales’ Joe Cordina who was denied a US travel visa. Mason is unbeaten in 20 fights.

On the undercard, Brooklyn’s Bruce Carrington defends his WBC featherweight title against the unbeaten Mexican Rene Palacios.


MEN’S BASKETBALL: Birmingham-born Myles Hesson netted 22 points as Britain crashed to a 105-85 World Cup qualifying defeat in Lithuania on Thursday evening and remain bottom of Group D.

They can still reach the second round with a win over Iceland in Manchester on Sunday afternoon having won November’s reverse fixture 90-84 in Reykjavik. In the other Group D midweek fixture Iceland went down 83-102 at home to table topping Italy.
