MEN’S BASKETBALL: Despite leading by seven points at the end of the third-quarter, Britain crashed out of the World Cup qualifiers after going down 86-88 to Iceland in Manchester on Sunday evening.

Joshua Uduje top-scored with 22 points for the Brits, who continued their unwanted record of failing to qualify for every edition of the World Cup they have entered. Britain are currently ranked as the world’s 44th best team.


MEN’S FOOTBALL: The long route to Champions League glory kicks off on Tuesday evening with Cymru Premier’s The New Saints in Azerbaijan to face competition debutants Sabah for the first leg of a first qualifying-round match.

League of Ireland table-toppers Shamrock Rovers visit Malta to take on Floriana, while Larne are in San Marino to face Tre Fiori. Next year’s final will take place in Madrid on June 5.


MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Ash Handley bagged a hat-trick as Leeds thumped Bradford 50-16 at Everton on Sunday to extend their Super League lead to four points.

Wigan moved into second place on points difference after edging out St Helens 16-14 in Magic Weekend’s finale, with Warrington dropping down to third following their 24-6 loss against Leigh.

Cameron Scott scored two first-half tries as fourth-placed Wakefield crushed Castleford 48-6.


MEN’S CRICKET: England take a 1-0 lead into Tuesday’s third leg of their five-match Twenty20 series against world champions India at Trent Bridge.

After the first game was abandoned due to rain, England claimed a four-wicket victory at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Chasing 191 to win, they lost both openers for ducks before Jacob Bethell hit five sixes and five fours in an unbeaten 76 to see them home with an over to spare.
