PROTESTS are set to greet US President Donald Trump’s state visit to Britain later this year.

Mr Trump will be hosted by the King and Queen at Windsor Castle during his unprecedented second state visit, scheduled for September 17 to 19.

Stop Trump Coalition has called a mass demonstration on the day of his arrival, which will kick off at London’s Embankment at 2pm.

The coalition is planning further protests once more details of the visit are known, including one around Windsor Castle.

Stop Trump Coalition spokesperson Seema Syeda said: “Trump and his authoritarian politics are not welcome here.

“Keir Starmer should not be rolling out the red carpet for Trump.

“They are already running scared. They have chosen the first possible date that stops Trump from being able to address Parliament.

“We are working at speed to bring together all the movements — for democracy, for equality, against climate change, for a free Palestine — to show our unity against Trump.”

During Mr Trump’s visit, the House of Commons will be in recess for party conference season, meaning the US president won’t have the opportunity to address Parliament.

Treasury chief secretary Darren Jones told ITV: “I don’t know why the particular dates were chosen by the Palace.

“Of course, state visits are organised by the Palace, not by the government or Parliament.”

He added that the government was “looking forward to welcoming” Mr Trump.

Police in Scotland are preparing for a potential visit later this month, during which the president is likely to visit one or both of his golf clubs.

A senior Police Scotland officer said the cost of policing the visit will be “considerable.”
