US Democrats slam Trump over Iran bombing

DEMOCRATS in the US Congress accused President Donald Trump of acting unconstitutionally today by ordering the bombardment of three sites in IranIran.

“No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement.

“Confronting Iran’s ruthless campaign of terror, nuclear ambitions and regional aggression demands strength, resolve and strategic clarity.”

Senator Jack Reed, the top Democrat on the Senate armed services committee, said: “This was a massive gamble by President Trump and nobody knows yet whether it will pay off.”

House of Representatives Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries argued that Mr Trump had “misled the country about his intentions, failed to seek congressional authorisation for the use of military force and risks American entanglement in a potentially disastrous war in the Middle East.”

Most Republicans predictably praised the president’s action.

“Well done, President Trump,” Senator Lindsey Graham of  posted on X, while Alabama Senator Katie Britt called the bombings “strong and surgical.”

Senate armed services committee chairman Roger Wicker said that Mr Trump had “made a deliberate — and correct — decision to eliminate the existential threat posed by the Iranian regime.”
