MEN’S FOOTBALL: Sao Paolo’s Palmeiras take on Al-Ahly from Cairo om Thursday evening as the second round of Club World Cup matches get under way in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Both teams drew 0-0 in their opening games Group A with Inter Miami and FC Porto, who face each other later tomorrow night.

Thursday’s other matches see Seattle Sounders play Athletico Madrid and Abu Dhabi’s Al-Ain up against Juventus in Washington DC.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Two days after making himself unavailable for Salford’s Super League game with St Helens, and was accused of “downing tools” by head coach Paul Rowley, Sam Stone has joined Warrington on loan until the end of the season.

Dan Russell and Tom Whitehead will move in the opposite direction to Salford as part of the deal.

Stone made only two appearances for Salford, who sit bottom of the table, this season.

WOMEN’S CRICKET: The East Midlands Blaze, captained by Kirstie Gordon, take the Twenty20 Blast’s only remaining unbeaten record into Thursday afternoon’s match with Lancaster at Grace Road.

At the other end of the table, Somerset will be looking of their first win of the season when they host the Hampshire Hawks in tomorrow’s other fixture.

Somerset’s only points so for came from their abandoned match with the Blaze a fortnight ago.

ICE HOCKEY: North Vancouver-born Sam Reinhart netted four times as defending champions Florida Panthers thumped the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 on Wednesday morning to take an unassailable 4-2 lead in the play-off final series and retained the Stanley Cup.

Florida were appearing in their third consecutive final while five-time winners Edmonton, who last won the trophy back in 1990, were also runners-up in 2024.
